2 Peter 3:18 - But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
On the first Sunday of January in 2026, I preached a sermon on the theme "Growth Starts Here." The purpose of that sermon was to cast a vision for our church family calling 100% of our regular attenders to experience growth this year in one of three areas: freedom from sin, focus in our ministry, and faithfulness in our witness.
If you stop by the board in the lobby, you can read notes that people have posted about the ways that they have experienced growth this year. Here are a few (slightly redacted) examples:
"I have always had a simmering faith, but I am now in a place of growth and I am so grateful... I joined a small group for the first time."
"I have always had a need to "plan" everything, but now I am learning to trust God and let Him work in His time."
"My son accepted the Lord as his Savior this year and is growing spiritually. He was baptized and is actively attending a small group and serving in various ministries."
"My friend is always there for me when I need to be reminded to put my trust in the Lord, for He will never leave me nor forsake me."
It is such a blessing to read these testimonies and to hear of many others who are taking steps of faith away from sin and toward Jesus. May we continue to be a church that takes spiritual growth seriously, filling that board with more and more reminders of growth, and celebrating God's goodness in our midst.
