Dear Parent,

We would like to welcome you and your child to the AWANA Club program at Redwood Chapel Community Church. The name AWANA is an acrostic which stands for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” and is taken from II Timothy 2:15.  The AWANA Club program is specifically designed to help your child be that “Approved Workman,” a young student who works at understanding and applying scriptural principles in everyday life.  It  is a time when children have keen memories and are eager to “input” their minds with knowledge...about everything! Thus, it only makes sense that we capitalize on these years to see that God’s Word is being hidden securely in their hearts and minds.

There are requirements to become a part of the club and requirements to be successful in this club which are outlined further in this booklet. You will find that AWANA also provides a special place for your children to make new friends, play exciting games, compete in rewarding and challenging contests, receive awards as reinforcement for their good performance, as well as grow in the knowledge of God’s Word, the Bible.

This booklet will provide you with the basic information that you need to know and share with your child(ren) about how AWANA operates.  The AWANA Staff is composed of volunteer workers who care very much about the spiritual and social development of the clubbers.  Each clubber is very special to us and to God!

Your participation as parents is also crucial.  You can help your children by encouraging them to come each week, by helping them memorize at least two sections in their handbook per week, by showing excitement over their achievements, and by communicating any special needs with us. We would suggest that you  spend 5 minutes each morning and evening reading or reviewing sections for the greatest retention.

Working together with your children will help them place a high value on God’s Word. Some AWANA parents have found this time can even be expanded into a time of “family devotions” each evening.

We welcome you to visit our club meetings any time.  Plus, AWANA outings are always open to parents as this provides better supervision for the club. Your child will be thrilled to have you along!  If you have any questions or need more information, please feel free to call the Church at 510-886-6300.

 Sincerely,

 John Gomez
